Musician

Originally a classically-trained percussionist performing in wind ensembles, symphony orchestras and jazz bands, Cary found a love for Latin music and genres of the African diaspora during university.

Performed with many world-renown composers, conductors, and recording artists. Shared stages with Turtle Island String Quartet, Randy Brecker, Christian McBride, Jerry Goldsmith, Robert W. Smith, John Clayton, Manny Albam, Daron Aric Hagen, Phil Woods, Ernie Watts, Tom Scott and more.

As a leader of music ensembles, Cary takes pride in studying the art of conducting, which consists of the dual complex skills of playing the ensemble as a music instrument by leading the musicians via gesture, and rehearsing in the pace and style needed by each ensemble and each piece of music.

Cary's conducting workshop experiences include University of North Texas, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Minnesota and his conducting mentors include Michael Haithcock, Mallory Thompson, Eugene Corporon, Jerry Luckhardt, Rodney Dorsey, John Pasquale.

As a creator, Cary writes custom arrangements for many purposes and abilities, stretching from beginning band methods to big band jazz charts to high school athletic pep songs to professional symphony orchestra works.

Currently writes educational charts on weekdays for his student ensembles as part of his career duties. Spends his weekends and holidays writing and recording original rock and jazz music for his own personal satisfaction.
